Mother Nature enjoys
Testing its humans

Immersed in waters
But no drinking water

Man helps man
Hands holding hands

Forming a human chain
Of love and compassion

The best comes out
In the worst of times

Human spirit remains

Recent floods due to heavy rains in India’s fourth largest city Chennai have taken lives of more than 280 people and left the city devastated, not to mention the breakdown of infra-structure.

It was amazing to see people stand united in their times of extreme trouble.

    • Such times do bring the best out, something that is always there in us but clouded by ego and divisive arrogance. Seeing such solidarity as in Chennai changes something in us too; a lesson to emulate.

  1. The spirit of humanism and resilience pours down in chennai like a benign cloudburst, effectively countering nature’s outburst, punitive in intensity apparently against choked drains and landfills of erstwhile water bodies for concrete structures. You have captured it all in a few lines.

    • Your comments are like another poem. I read them twice to derive newer meanings. Humanism is like a ‘benign cloudburst’…and ‘punitive in intensity against choked drains’ now that changes the whole scenario. Moody nature as well as choked authorities stand nowhere against human resilience. Thanks for your unique views!

  2. Hi Alka,

Good to be over at your blog πŸ™‚

Yes, the recent Chennai floods were pretty awful, but seeing the huge support provided by people towards each other was amazing. That’s what brings us all together, to stand as one at such times of need, isn’t it? I’m so glad things are getting better there, though it would still take a while for normalcy to return.

Thanks for sharing. Have a nice week ahead πŸ™‚

    • Hi Harleena,

Welcome! It’s my pleasure in fact an honour to have you here.

No doubt Chennai (and later UK) have been badly affected and now the process of rebuilding the city will take long. Their courage and unity has been admirable indeed but a little help and moral support from us outsiders, as well as spreading the word around can make some difference. I always feel people should do something for all those in distress, be it minimal such as small donation.

Thanks for dropping by. You too have a great week πŸ™‚
